Collaboration around sustainability data is foundational to driving reduction and systemic change. That’s why we’ve created the Scope3 Collaborative Sustainability Platform (CSP).
Scope3’s open-access platform centralizes emissions data, providing a single source of truth for the digital advertising industry. Click here for a glossary of platform terms.

Below are the functions that the Scope3 CSP provides:

  • Search: Search for a specific media property.
  • Explore: Access emissions reports for digital media properties, ad formats, and benchmark data by channel and region.
  • Measure: Calculate emissions specific to your campaigns or Green PMPs (GMP).
  • Model: Add your unique assets for more accurate emissions modeling, which will be showcased to buyers.
  • Integrate: Connect your data to the Scope3 platform via uploads in the UI or a cloud storage bucket configuration.
    • ATP Supply: Upload data about your supply paths to improve your emissions model.
    • ATP Traffic Shaping: Upload traffic shaping data to improve your emissions model.
    • Creative Delivery: Upload information about creatives into the Scope3 system for modeling and inclusion in reports, dashboards, and other Scope3 tools.
    • Media Delivery: Upload information about transacted impressions into the Scope3 system for modeling and inclusion in reports, dashboards, and other analytic tools.
  • Learn: Links to additional Scope3 resources on our Methodology, GARM, research, and climate resources to learn more about our mission to decarbonize media and advertising.

Home
You can see the latest updates and a snapshot of our CSP's newest features. Click on each tile for more information.

You can search for a specific media property to learn more about its emissions.

Explore

You can select the channel to view a list of digital media properties and their emissions metrics by country. Available channels include Web, App, Streaming Video, Social, and Audio. Click on a property to see more details. In this view, you can also filter by seller and by ad format.

The emissions framework is set to Scope3 Classic by default, but users may also select the Global Media Sustainability Framework (GMSF).

Note: Some properties have a green Scope3 Verified flag next to their name. This is Scope3’s stamp of approval given to entities whose partner-contributed data meet our criteria for accuracy and granularity.)

When exploring a property, you will see a comparative ranking based on Scope3’s monthly data for the filtered country. You can also visualize the emissions breakdown, which calculates overall emissions based on the foundational components of our methodology:

  • Media distribution: The emissions generated from the distribution and monetization of content, including all corporate overhead not related to content production or ad selection, up to the point the user views the content.
  • Ad selection: The emissions generated from selecting which ad to show a user, including ad serving, programmatic auctions, measurement, and all other technologies used outside of the creative delivery.
  • Creative distribution: The emissions generated from the creative delivery to the consumer device up to the point where the creative is displayed.
  • Consumer use (in beta): the emissions generated from the media display and the creative on the consumer device (if any).

This view also allows you to track changes to emissions over time across a specific digital media property.

When hovering over the different supply paths and associated emissions for each path, the Ad Selection Diagram shows you their view. You can expand, collapse, reset the zoom, and print this view.

Finally, you can add the media property to a Saved List (see below for more info) or use the Compare feature to compare it with another media property side-by-side. The Share Link button allows you to copy the link to this comparison and share it with others.

You can browse a list of custom ad formats submitted by Publisher and Ad Tech partners and modeled by Scope3. Formats with a verified stamp include all required partner-contributed data to meet our criteria for accuracy and granularity.

You can create and edit saved lists of properties by channel to browse associated emissions by geo.

Scope3 benchmarks allow you to view and compare gCO₂PM data across different geos and channels, with the option of excluding or including consumer devices.

Get Scope3's emissions data. For additional information, please read the Scope3 Guide to Media Reporting for Sellers.

This feature integrates campaign data from where you buy media and combines it with the Scope3 emissions model to deliver a complete view of your campaigns’ carbon footprint and performance. You may filter by start date, end date, country, and Advertiser.
You may also export the full report as PDF or each separate graph in .png format.

Model

SSPs and Publishers can model custom ad formats, which can be showcased to buyers in the Explore section of the CSP. Please click here for more information.

To begin, click the Create New Format button and follow the steps to input the relevant information.

Note: You can duplicate, edit, or delete each ad format by clicking the  button next to a specific ad format.

At the end of the process, you can either save your ad format as a draft or Publish Live.
Publishing your ad format will allow it to show under the
Explore Ad Formats section of the CSP.

Integrate

Connect your data to the Scope3 platform via uploads in the UI or a cloud storage bucket configuration.

  • Overview

This is where you can view, create, and edit automation with cloud storage buckets connected via Google Cloud Storage, Amazon S3, or Microsoft Azure. You may pull data into the Scope3 CSP and send Scope3 reporting back to the Cloud storage bucket.

  • Activity
You can upload a new reporting file for import and review a list of the latest files uploaded via the UI or cloud storage connection. You can manage approval, view the first 2000 rows of an uploaded report, or re-process data in case of an error. There is also an option to QA the upload for a signal on how Scope3 will process the data based on schema and file from your media buying reporting platform.

  • Cloud Storage
A simple way to ease the uploading/downloading of reports to/from Scope3 is through Cloud Storage buckets on Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure. This tab enables you to set up a new cloud storage connection or view and manage existing connections.

Instructions for configuring cloud buckets in Scope3 can be found here.

  • Schema mapping
Prior to uploading any data, you should map the expected column headers or fields from your reporting platform to the expected column headers and fields of Scope3 reports. This task can be done once per report type, and then referenced when performing an upload.

The videos below will guide you through the schema mapping process:
