Scope3 Verified

"Scope3 Verified" is the stamp of approval Scope3 gives when we have high confidence that the contributed data from our partners meets our criteria for accuracy and granularity when included in our emissions model. Scope3 Verified does not mean green or low carbon.

Eligibility for verification depends on the kind of entity or offering being measured. To receive the Verified stamp, all "Scope3 Verified" entities must have attained a certain level of contributed data.

Below are the eligibility criteria for each entity Scope3 currently verifies:

  • Web, app, audio, and CTV properties
    • The property ad stack has been mapped via observed data
    • Property owner (publisher or media company) has reviewed their mapped ad stack, made any required changes, and confirmed that it is a fair representation of the ad stack
  • Social properties
    • Property activity metrics, including session time, session weight and/or ad load, have been provided
    • An organization’s corporate emissions reporting has been provided. Emissions boundaries, accounting methodology, and reporting granularity are considered sufficient
  • Digital out-of-home (DOOH) property groups
    • Physical dimensions and venue types for properties (screens) have been provided
    • Provide the energy consumption data for your digital out-of-home screens (either from screen meters or energy bills)
    • A minimum of 80% of the properties in a property group have met these criteria for the group to be classified as Verified
  • Ad formats
    • Technical specs for the ad format have been provided
    • Media dimension or duration, or weight of static assets have been identified and included in the submission of the ad format
  • Verified for SSPs and media sellers

    • At a high level, SSPs wanting to obtain the Scope3 Verified status will need to provide information about:

      • Supply - What ad inventory they have access to and how they integrate with publishers.
      • Requests Handling - How much carbon emissions are produced to handle an ad request
      • Traffic Shaping - How they integrate with downstream demand partners (so we can better estimate their “secondary” emissions)
    • Please see https://methodology.scope3.com/data_quality#ad-tech-platforms for a comprehensive list of all available fields
    • We expect contributions for each of these categories. The obtainment of the Verified status will require to pass an average score of 2.5 out of 5 across the three groups as described below.

To maintain the reliability of the contributed data and information underpinning our Verified program, Scope3 contractually requires all our partners to ensure that the data they supply us is correct and that they inform us of any substantive changes to the information we have on their data points.

Scope3 also reserves the right to adjust requirements for verification over time.
